An exhibition based on the diary of Charles Stanley Cuthbert, an English veteran of World War One who later settled in Ireland, and lived in the Dún Laoghaire area. Charles kept diaries during WW1 and later typed these up, creating a definitive version of his wartime experiences. His typed diary was donated to dlr LexIcon in 2015. The exhibition, created to coincide with the centenary commemorations of Armistice Day, is curated by David Gunning, dlr Archivist in Residence. The diary is supplemented by material loaned by the Cuthbert family as well as other archives and institutions. Included in the display is the piece of shrapnel that nearly killed Charles at the Battle of Festubert (1915) as well as drawings, photographs and artefacts from the War to end all Wars.
