David Bruce (Film and Photography Historian, Author of ‘Greatrex: Photographer and Forger’)
Greatrex was a Glasgow photographer who, when the business was failing, turned, with two skilful accomplices, to forging pound notes. Pursued by Captain McCall, a new kind of policeman, a detective, Greatrex and his mistress made it as far as New York before the ingenious lawman caught up with him and brought him back to Edinburgh and to a celebrated trial.
David Bruce will give an overview of Greatrex and his life of crime, in this, one of a series of talks around our exhibition ‘Rogues Gallery: Faces of Crime 1870-1917’. Matheson Dome, General Register House, 25 Oct – 1 Dec 2017, Monday to Friday, 09:30-4:30pm.Visit website
