Between 2pm and 7pm, at the ESB Centre for the Study of Irish Art (Millennium Wing, NGI), visitors will have the opportunity to view archives relating to Art in Ireland in the early twentieth century. Focusing on the theme of ‘Tradition and Modernity’, the different items will show how some artists in Ireland responded to the changes taking place in internationally (for example, the influence Cubism), while others remained committed to established forms of painting. Artists represented will include, amongst others, William Orpen, Mary Swanzy, Jack B Yeats, and Mainie Jellett. Members of the Library and Archive team will be present on the day, to highlight the stories behind these fascinating objects. Event held at: ESB Centre for the Study of Irish Art, Millennium Wing, National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin 2.
