Conversation with actor Des Nealon and Dublin-based artist Gavin Murphy regarding the architectural and performance history of the now defunct Eblana theatre, located in the basement of Dublin’s famous central bus station Busáras. The conversation will be moderated by Dublin City Council Historian in Residence Kevin McKenna and will include a visual display of images from Eblana Theatre Productions from the Irish Theatre Archive. To celebrate Explore Your Archive, Gavin Murphy will donate a copy of his Eblana Theatre Productions Database to the Irish Theatre Archive for public access which was collated during his research for the exhibition 'Double-Movement'. Speakers: Gavin Murphy is a Dublin-based artist and curator with an interest in documenting cultural spaces and histories. His exhibition 'Double Movement' –about the Eblana Theatre- is currently installed at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios until 18 November 2017. Des Nealon is an Irish actor known for Educating Rita (1983), Dead Bodies (2003) and Park (1999), along with many other TV and theatre credits. He has fond memories of acting and producing plays in Eblana Theatre until it closed in the early 1990s.
